Après les étranges mœurs du coléoptère Julodimorpha bakewelli, qui préfère une bouteille de bière à une congénère femelle (et ce n’est pas pour se désaltérer !), je vous propose aujourd’hui de l’amour voluptueux et tendre. Vous allez assister à rien de moins que la plus belle des étreintes. Mais c’est aussi une des plus acrobatiques !
Nos tourtereaux sont des limaces, plus exactement des limaces léopards Limax maximus.

De belle taille (jusqu’à 20 centimètres !), elle doit son nom aux tâches marron qui parsèment son corps. Européenne au départ, elle a été introduite accidentellement dans plusieurs régions du monde. Est-ce un bien ou un mal ? Difficile de répondre, car si elle ne nourrit avidement de jeunes pousses (et cause donc des dommages aux cultures), elle est aussi parfois carnivore. À ce titre, elle attaque facilement des limaces d’autres espèces en les poursuivant à une allure effrénée puisqu’elle peut atteindre la vitesse folle de 15 centimètres par minute !! Ce qui nous fait donc un petit neuf mètres par heure. La prochaine fois que vous voyez passer un truc tacheté dans votre jardin à toute allure : ce n’est pas le chat du voisin, c’est une limace.
On peut assister ici à l’attaque du léopard en vidéo ! Attention, âmes sensibles s’abstenir.
Cette limace cannibale (ou presque) est à rapprocher de cet escargot tout aussi prédateur pour ses cousins dont j’avais parlé ici.
