Le double cauchemar : le serpent araignée
Vous avez horreur des serpents, et la moindre allusion à ces créatures vous donne des frissons ? Vous criez à la vue d’une araignée et vous enfuyez en gesticulant comme un damné ? Voici votre double cauchemar : Pseudocerastes urarachnoides.
Son nom anglais est spider-tailed horned viper, c’est-à-dire vipère cornue à queue en araignée. Ce reptile, endémique de l’Iran occidental, dans les monts Zagros, a été découvert une première fois en 1960, puis redécouvert en 2006 par Hamid Bostanchi

De fait, l’extrémité de sa queue est hérissée de petites excroissances, l’ensemble ressemblant à une sorte d’araignée. À vous de juger.

À quoi lui sert un tel appendice ? À attirer ses proies, le plus souvent des oiseaux à la recherche de nourriture, et notamment des insectes et autres arthropodes.
