Peut-on échapper à Halloween sous la mer ?
À la fin de la semaine, des millions d’enfants sonneront à toutes les portes pour réclamer des bonbons et autres cochonneries sucrées sous peine de tours pendables. C’est le célèbre « Trick or treat », que l’on pourrait traduire par « des farces ou des friandises ». Plusieurs réactions sont possibles
La version « Oh c’est trop mignon » : vous provisionnez votre placard avec des tonnes de bonbons pour satisfaire les demandes des gentils chenapans qui se présenteront chez vous.

La version « Barrez-vous les gosses »
Rendez-vous chez le voisin.
Et la version « Fuyons ces hordes de gamins en furie grimés aux gros marqueurs ». Mais où se réfugier ? Au fond de la mer ? Et bien non, pas sûr, car là aussi lutins, gobelins, vampires, loups garous, sorcières sont légions. La preuve en photo.
D’abord, le requin-lutin Mitsukurina owstoni, j’en avais déjà parlé ici.

En anglais, l’animal est nommé Goblin shark, c’est-à-dire requin gobelin.
Venons-en au loup. Il y a bien sûr le loup, l’équivalent méditerranéen du bar, mais il n’est pas assez effrayant pour nous aujourd’hui. Tournons-nous plutôt vers les poissons-loup, notamment le loup gélatineux Anarhichas denticulatus.

ou bien le loup de l’Atlantique Anarhichas lupus (rien à voir avec le bar méditerranéen, vous me suivez ?).

Son aspect peu engageant et ses « canines » lui ont valu d'être surnommé le « mangeur de bottes » par certains pêcheurs.
Je n’ai pas trouvé de poisson loup-garou, mais un personnage de Marvel est un, ou plutôt une requin-garou !

Continuons l’exploration du bestiaire d’Halloween avec les vampires ! Là, nous avons l’embarras du choix !
Premier exemple, le poisson vampire du Brésil Vandellia cirrhosa, de son petit nom candiru. Nous ne sommes plus dans la mer, mais en eau douce.

Ce poisson est connu s'accrocher aux branchies de plus gros que lui pour se nourrir du sang et de la chair de sa victime. Cependant, l'animal détecte sa cible grâce à l'urée qu'elle libère. Or on trouve aussi de l'urée dans l'urine... aussi prudence lorsque vous vous soulagez dans une rivière du bassin amazonien. Le candiru s'est déjà faufilé dans l'urètre d'imprudents.
Une autre espèce a été découverte récemment, elle préfèrerait le sang nasal...
Nous avons également le payara Hydrolycus scomberoides lui aussi hôte des eaux du bassin amazonien. Vampire ? Je me demande bien pourquoi ?

Autre poisson qui mérite le sobriquet de poisson vampire, la lamproie. Elle a la fâcheuse habitude de sucer le sang de ses victimes.
Attention, les lamproies se rencontrent ailleurs que dans l’eau : elles peuvent aussi tomber du ciel ! C’est la surprise qui a été réservée aux habitants de Fairbanks, en Alaska, début juin 2015 : il ont retrouvé des spécimens dans les jardins, sur les parkings.... L’hypothèse qui prévaut aujourd’hui incrimine les mouettes : elles auraient lâcher les lamproies en vol. De fait, les lamproies sont abondantes dans les rivières de ces contrées.
